Laura was a missionary in Yap, which is a small island in the North Pacific.
It is a few hundred miles from Guam. She was there for a full year,
teaching elementary school. She loved it and would like to go back.
If
you've heard of a country that has very large stone coins, or money, then
you've heard of Yap. They have one of these coins in the Museum of Natural
History at the Smithsonian Institution. Here is Laura next to one of their
pieces of money.
When
she was teaching school she became very close to her children there.
Here is Laura with her class. You can view their faces better in
the closeup.
One
of her students drew this picture of typhoon Erma for Laura. Be
sure to click on the picture to see the larger version as the detail is
much better.
